Since he first encountered Wolverine, Sabretooth has stood out as a perfect nemesis for the hero (at one point, Sabretooth was even intended to be Wolverine's father, though this was later contradicted by other writers). Unlike Wolverine, whose savagery is tempered by his humanity, Sabretooth's bestial nature is unrestrained and untempered by moral concerns. The character has gotten heavy use in X-Men and Wolverine continuity over the years and has even appeared in the X-Men feature films (most recently portrayed by Liev Schreiber in X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Issues featuring Wolverine versus Sabretooth battles have long been considered keys, making this a very appealing offering from Marvel's Modern era.
